The International Festival of Falconry opened today featuring traditional falconry demonstrations and workshops to be enjoyed by leading authorities and experts from around the world. #IFF2017

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the Festival celebrates Youth and the passing on of falconry knowledge to the next generation

the festival is organized by Emirates Falconers’ Club (EFC) in cooperation with the International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey (IAF).
H.E. Majed Al Mansoori, chairman of the Higher Organising Committee of IFF, CEO of EFC, said the festival’s extensive and commendable list of global achievements highlights the role of the UAE in promoting the heritage of falconry at an international level. In 2010, falconry was registered as a living heritage on the UNESCO representative list of intangible cultural heritage for humanity.
H.E. Al Mansoori said, “The UAE continues to reinforce its position as a global pioneer in the field of Living Heritage Preservation. Its belief that the protection of traditions and customs amounts to the preservation of the living memory of nations; what gathers us here today is one unified world of heritage and spirit.” H.E. Al Mansoori concluded the speech by extending his gratitude to the International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey (IAF), and to the festival’s media partner, Yas TV, and to all the participating countries, governmental and semi-governmental authorities as well as private sector organizations. H.E. Al Mansoori also thanked the esteemed media representatives for their active and valuable support for the festival.

The public festival will be held in Khalifa Park, Abu Dhabi, on the 8th and 9th of December 2017, between 11 am to 9 pm and is open for the public. More than 700 falconers, researchers and experts are participating in the event, 250 of which are youth falconers. Over 100 international falconry clubs and organizations from 90 countries and 8 international falconry schools and academies for the first time in the Middle East are also participating in the festival, in addition to a number of governmental entities, authorities and departments concerned with the preservation of the environment and deep-rooted UAE heritage. Visitors of the festival will enjoy more than 50 activities and features that include: rare and historical pictures, educational, artistic and cultural programs, interactive workshops, live performances and specialized exhibitions.
