Sharjah: Sharjah Airport has been approved by the Airports Council International (ACI). With this, Sharjah has become the eighth airport in the Middle East to receive the approval of the ACI Accreditation Program. Sharjah Airport Authority Chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa received the award at the ACI Global Summit held in Krakow, Poland. Last March, the award for the best airport in the Middle East also came to Sharjah. Sharjah topped the list of airports handling between 50 lakh and one and a half crore passengers every year.
Al Midfa said this is proof of the authority’s commitment to provide passengers with a safe and smooth travel experience. Customer is the priority in all operations of the airport. Facilitation is provided by understanding the needs of passengers through interaction with them. He added that this recognition is a matter of pride and added that 60 lakh passengers passed through Sharjah Airport in the first six months of this year. This is a 142 percent increase over the same period last year. 41,000 flights took off from the airport during this period. Last year, 21,000 Vimasa services were held. There has been an increase of 89 percent in this regard. There has also been a huge increase in the volume of cargo shipped. Between January and June, 96,000 tonnes of cargo was shipped. A 50 percent increase has been recorded in this regard. Salim Al Midfa said that the increase in the number of passengers at the airport shows that Sharjah is becoming stronger as a destination for business and travel. Sharjah Airport has many modern systems including smart gate, smart information desk and self-service.
