DUBAI, 6th February, 2022 (WAM) — Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, has revealed that AED190,890,000 was disbursed as marriage grants benefitting 2,727 young Emirati citizens in 2021, an increase of more than 11 percent in 2020, which oversaw AED171,360,000 for 2,448 people.

Buhumaid said that the repeated annual increase of spouses indicates the increased marriage rate among Emiratis. The primary condition of the grant is that the spouses be Emirati citizens. She pointed out that the role of the marriage grant is promoting family cohesion and increasing the awareness of young people and the value of building and forming a stable Emirati family.

Buhumaid stated that the marriage grants for young Emirati grooms during 2021 are the largest ever since the initiative’s launch in 1992. The ministry is currently working to provide more facilities for future Emirati spouses by re-amending organisational decisions and conditions, facilitating the procedures for the disbursement of the grants, and motivating young Emirati grooms to achieve their ambitions by establishing stable families.

She noted that the ministry’s commitment to its strategic vision aligns with the principle of achieving better wellbeing for all the members of society, whereas marriage grants are one of the ministry’s initiatives to empower young people and help them build a family. The marriage grants also come within the ministry’s objectives and plans which coincide with the vision and guidance of the UAE leadership to achieve serval social objectives such as establishing an Emirati family, strengthening family cohesion, supporting community coherence among Emirati youth community and promoting family culture among young people.

The total amount of the marriage grant is AED70,000 disbursed at once to the eligible beneficiary according to certain conditions in support of the young Emiratis’ aspirations to build financially and morally stable families. The marriage grant helps young Emirati couples to start their marriage and family life with stability and reassurance, fulfil the financial marriage requirements and alleviate them financially, raise their awareness of aspects of family life after marriage, and build and maintain a stable and cohesive family.

The ministry provides a marriage grant on the following conditions: the applicant and his wife must be Emirati citizens; the age of the husband must not be less than 21 years while the age of the wife must be at least 18 years at the time of marriage contract, net income of the husband must not exceed AED25,000.
