DUBAI, July 26, WAM/ The Ministry of Social Development, in collaboration with the Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Sciences at Ajman University, has launched the “Psychological First Aid for Senior Citizens” training program, which is aimed at 40 participants representing the Ministry and its partners Quality of life for older citizens.
The duration of the training program “Psychological First Aid for the Elderly” extends to 6 months at a rate of one workshop per week. At the end of the training, the trainee obtains an approved certificate for the training program “Psychological First Aid for Senior Citizens”.
The program seeks to rehabilitate staff in aged care centers who wish to work in the field of psychological counseling for senior citizens by providing them with the scientific basis, practical skills and specialized aspects that enable them to achieve the necessary qualification, knowledge and success , which allows them to handle senior citizens in this aspect.
Rashid Al-Ghamlasy, director of the Senior Citizens’ Happiness Center in Ajman, attached to the Ministry of Social Development, explained that the initiative to rehabilitate those affected in order to provide psychological assistance to senior citizens comes in connection with the package of initiatives that were launched by the Ministry of the Emirate of Ajman, based on the objectives of the national policy for elderly citizens, aimed at improving their quality of life and ensuring their active and continuous participation within the social structure of the state and in accordance with the basic policy axes, especially in the axis of “healthcare” and the axis of “community communication and active life” and the axis of “quality in future life.”
Al-Ghamlasy pointed out that the ministry’s efforts to support senior citizens focus on providing many development initiatives in the field of community service that lead to improving the quality of life for the individual, from partners, institutions and stakeholders, such as the distribution of aids to improve the quality of life of senior citizens , provide for basic household needs such as electrical appliances and other necessities, in addition to maintaining a number of residences for senior citizens.
Dr. Rasha Abdel Rahman, head of the Department of Psychology at the College of Humanities and Sciences, for his part, stated that the educational program is one of the forms of fruitful cooperation between Ajman University and the Ministry of Social Development, and seeks to present a series of workshops by professors specialized in the field, with the aim of providing the participants with the basic information and skills necessary to provide services Psychological care to senior citizens, and the program is also a good opportunity to train and prepare specialized and distinguished cadres and competences with scientific knowledge and full awareness of how to provide care services to senior citizens at all psychological and social levels according to best practices in practice, contributing to achieving the UAE’s vision of the right to provide care and stability Psychological, social and health care for senior citizens and work to propagate and achieve the philosophy of happiness known by the state acted.
It is worth mentioning that the program is based on: meeting the needs of the local psychological and social field and providing specialized skills that the program is expected to build and support and achieve the university’s leading role in community service.
