Montevideo, September 18/WAM/ His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, President of the Federal National Council, and His Excellency Beatriz Argimon, Vice President of the Republic and President of the Senate of Eastern Uruguay, held a conversation session during his official visit, at the head of a parliamentary delegation from the Council.
During the negotiation session, they discussed ways to activate parliamentary relations, exchange experiences and visits, strengthen coordination and consultation on various issues during participation in international parliamentary events, and support the directions of the governments of the two governments and their willingness to activate cooperation in all areas and benefit of the distinguished relations that the two countries have with various countries in the world and institutions and international organizations in the work to achieve peace, security and stability in the world.
The two sides touched on regional and international issues and discussed the latest developments in the regional and international arenas, stressing the importance of ongoing consultations on international issues of common interest to the two countries.
The session of talks was attended by His Excellency Saeed Abdullah Al Qamzi, the non-resident ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, and from the delegation of the Federal National Council, members of the Friendship Committee Group with Latin Parliaments. The two sides emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and its activation in the two parliamentary institutions through coordination and consultation on various issues, communication, exchange of experience and visits in a way that contributes to framing and developing existing relations in various fields .
His Excellency Saqr Ghobash thanked the Uruguayan side for the warm reception and hospitality received by the FNC delegation since its arrival, stressing that relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, established in 1980, represent a prominent model of bilateral relations, noting that the leaderships of the two countries are eager to deepen relations. Political and economic areas of mutual interest to the UAE and Uruguay, such as energy, renewable energy, food security, economy, education, health, sports, culture and tourism.
Pointing out that the National Council as a legislative institution is keen to contribute together with the world’s parliaments in the efforts to create a secure and better future, His Excellency said: “We are keen to strengthen these efforts and contribute to them through the participation of parliamentarians and through their work and relations with the world’s parliaments, given that parliamentary relations between the countries of the UAE and Uruguay represent a major driving force for the growth and development of bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields.
He added that the Federal National Council’s signing of a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with the Parliament of Latin America and the Caribbean in June 2022 and the granting of the Council the status of an observer member of the Parliament is a strengthening of international parliamentary cooperation and a contribution to strengthen joint efforts for economic, social, cultural and political cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Latin American countries.
He referred to the signing of the Joint Cooperation Agreement between the Federal National Council and the Group of Latin American States (Grulak) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in October 2014, which is the first agreement signed by an Arab country with the Grulac Group and will strengthen cooperation in various areas.
His Excellency emphasized the keenness of the wise leadership to support and empower women to play their leading role in community service in all fields and to prepare all the ingredients for success for them.. He pointed out that the UAE ranks fourth in the world in women’s representation in parliament and the number of councilors reached 50% of its members.
Her Excellency Beatriz Argimon, Vice President of the Republic and President of the Senate of Eastern Uruguay, expressed her joy and welcome to the delegation from the Federal National Council.
Her Excellency confirmed the Eastern Republic of Uruguay’s interest in strengthening parliamentary relations and activating them in various areas in a way that contributes to strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.
