Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi confirms beginning of space experiments aboard the ISS; shares video

Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi has begun carrying out space experiments aboard the International Space Station.

The astronaut who is dubbed as the ‘Sultan of Space’ recently shared a new video from the International Space Station (ISS).

On Wednesday, March 15, 2023, Dr. Al Neyadi shared a video on his official Twitter account in which he can be seen touring the Columbus lab on the orbiting space laboratory.

In the video, the 41-year-old astronaut also confirmed that Crew-6 has begun carrying out experiments on substances and liquids.

The video which he shared a video on Twitter, was also shared by United Arab Emirates’ Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center with a translation into English.

In the 2-minute-long clip, Sultan Al Neyadi discussed the tests he will be conducting onboard International Space Station.

The astronaut revealed in the video that humans have been carrying out experiments for “more than 20 years.”

Dr. Al Neyadi via the clip shared that he is at the “Columbus laboratory” and the astronauts are doing experiments on “substances and liquids” as well as “plant cultivation.”

The 41-year-old revealed these experiments help them in their “daily life to develop construction materials” and “materials that we can use in everyday life.”

Al Neyadi also shared that these studies also aim at finding out the effect of “lack of gravity” on “osteoporosis, DNA mutations”, and “blood vessels”.

The Emirati astronaut also mentioned his colleague, Hazzaa Al Mansoori in the video who became the first Emirati in 2019 to conduct such experiments in space.

Before ending the video with good wishes, Al Neyadi revealed that the results of the experiments will also be shared with viewers.

Sultan Al Neyadi became the second Emirati to travel to space. He is also the second Arab to board the orbiting laboratory. During his time there, the astronaut will take part in more than 200 experiments.
