IMF managing director Christine Lagarde on Sunday met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan on the sidelines of World Government Summit in Dubai where she highlighted that strong economic package will restore confidence on the South Asian country’s economy and lay foundations for more inclusive growth.

“I reiterated that the IMF stands ready to support Pakistan. I also highlighted that decisive policies and a strong package of economic reforms would enable Pakistan to restore the resilience of its economy and lay the foundations for stronger and more inclusive growth… protecting the poor and strengthening governance are key priorities to improve people’s living standards in a sustainable manner,” Lagarde said in a statement.

They also discussed recent developments and prospects for Pakistan in the context of ongoing discussions toward an IMF-supported programme. However, it was not revealed whether the two leaders agreed on the loan package.

Khan praised the UAE leadership for hosting the summit. “We are happy that the Muslim world has stated these great forums for exchange of ideas.”
