Maier had been with the house for 17 years, having joined in 2001 after being hired by Tom Ford. According to Business of Fashion, under Maier’s leadership the brand “grew at a rapid pace, surpassing $1 billion in sales by 2012. It became, at the time, Kering’s fastest-growing label and second-largest after Gucci while still managing to maintain its signature sense of luxury and exclusivity.” And, as per the New York Times, in 2017, the brand “reported more than 1.17 billion euros in revenue putting it third in revenue among Kering’s luxury portfolio.”
His last collection was unveiled during New York Fashion Week for Fall/Winter ’18 and was particularly special due to its one-off show location in the Big Apple to celebrate the opening of the brand’s flagship store.
François-Henri Pinault, the CEO and Chairman at Kering, said in a statement, “It’s largely due to Tomas’s high-level creative demands that Bottega Veneta became the house it is today. He put it back on the luxury scene and made it an undisputed reference. I am deeply grateful and I personally thank him for the work he accomplished and for the exceptional success he helped to achieve.”
