Masdar completes a training course in Rwanda to empower women in renewable energy

The Women’s Platform for Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) announced the completion of the first field training course in Rwanda for girls in rural off-grid areas with the aim of teaching them how to take advantage of available clean energy solutions in line with the seventh goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which provides for ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable and sustainable modern energy services. The first edition of the training course was held in the Gazebo region under the title “Energy Saving in Rural Areas: Designing and Implementing Comprehensive Energy Systems for Local Communities” as part of the efforts of the program “Wiser Cares” launched this year and focusing on to activate the role of women affiliates in the “Women Pioneers” program. The platform aims to engage them in practical and interdisciplinary educational programs that focus on strengthening the components of sustainable development in society. Launched in 2018 and running throughout the year, the “Women Pioneers” program provides women between the ages of 25 and 35 with educational workshops and opportunities to network with global experts and motivates them to become entrepreneurs who play an active role in building a more sustainable future. The six-day training course included 14 girls, including nine participants from the “Pioneers” program and five female professionals in Rwanda. They participated in a series of lectures and practical projects supervised by international experts in renewable energy and sustainable development. The focus was on four areas: technologies Energy systems and service models and models to supply and finance energy sources for companies, including all parts of society, achieving social change, human development and climate adaptation. On this occasion Dr. Lamia Nawaf Fawaz, Managing Director of Corporate Identity and Strategic Initiatives at Masdar: “We are proud to host the Weiser Cares training course on energy conservation in rural areas, which comes as part of Masdar’s efforts to empower girls and provide them with the knowledge and the skills needed to promote sustainability in their communities and around the world.”
