LONDON, 11th February, 2022 (WAM) — Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met with the Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood, Chairman of the Defence Committee at the House of Commons of the United Kingdom (UK), as part of his official visit to the country.
During the meeting, Ghobash highlighted the close ties between the UAE and the UK, as well as their strategic partnership, and the opportunities to enhance their overall cooperation.
The sides exchanged views on current regional and international issues, most notably those related to the Middle East, underscoring the importance of achieving global peace, security and stability.
Ghobash lauded the UK’s stance in condemning the recent Houthi attacks against the UAE, noting that such terrorist attacks threaten regional peace and security and international navigation in the Bab Al Mandab Strait and the Red Sea.
Ellwood expressed his happiness at receiving Ghobash and his delegation and stressed the importance of enhancing the parliamentary relations between the two countries.
He also congratulated the UAE for its successful hosting of Expo 2020 Dubai, noting it could make the international event a key cultural icon.
The meeting was attended by a delegation comprising FNC members Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Dr. Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, Sarah Falaknaz and Marwan Al Muhairi, as well as Dr. Omar Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the FNC.
