Surprise! At deployment ceremony, Newark-based solider finds out he will come home to a new baby

The last time Melanie Carty’s husband, Staff Sgt. Yensy Carty, deployed, she gave him a handwritten note to provide a sense of comfort while he was overseas.

This time, as Staff Sgt. Carty prepares to head to Kuwait with his mortuary affairs unit, Melanie wanted to top that with a more special departing gift. As fate would have it, about a week before the deployment, she found out she would be able to give him an even bigger surprise than she anticipated.
