One of the leading development companies in the UAE capital, Aldar Properties, along with Diamond Developers, have launched The Sustainable City on Yas Island. The joint venture is a fully sustainable and unique residential community, which will span across a territory of over 4,273,000 sq. ft in Yas North.
The development will comprise condominiums with 1–3 bedroom apartments, townhouses with 3 and 4 bedrooms, as well as 32,300 sq. ft of retail space. The initial price for a 1-bedroom apartment in the condominiums will constitute AED 892K (USD 243K). The starting cost of a 3-bedroom townhouse in The Sustainable City is AED 3.24M (USD 883K).
The project will be developed to align with the net-zero goals of the UAE and all units will be powered by renewable energy to achieve net-zero. The agreement enables the development company to bring a tested model of sustainable living within a complex, which is the first fully operational sustainable community in the Middle East, to one of the most popular communities of Abu Dhabi — Yas Island. The intelligent, live-work-and-thrive destination brings forward the 2050 global climate targets. The expected date of the handover of Phase 1 is October 31, 2025.
Residents of The Sustainable City Yas Island will save up to 100% on their energy bills. The community also meets the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative due to its green, energy-efficient designs with a people-centric philosophy. The master plan of the neighbourhood comprises car-free residential clusters, indoor vertical farming, as well as recycling facilities. Residents of The Sustainable City Yas Island will enjoy a well-developed infrastructure including spacious landscaped areas, a mosque, an equestrian centre, as well as cycling and jogging tracks.
The AED 1.8B (USD 490M) project of Sustainable City on Yas Island, accommodates incremental innovation, such as, for example, higher efficiency panels, as well as disruptive innovation including EV car sharing and peer-to-peer energy trading.
