NEW YORK, 20th September, 2022 (WAM) — The UAE delegation held high-level meetings on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, attended the ministerial-level meeting of the League of Arab States, and also spoke during a joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council and People’s Republic of China.
For his part, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of State, met with Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia. Additionally, Sheikh Shakhboot met with several ministers, including Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Botswana; Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia; Robert Dussey, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and Togolese Abroad of Togo; Ambassador Molly Phee, US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs; and Ambassador Mike Hammer, US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan also met with Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Africa in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs – Department of Peace Operations.
For her part, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, alongside Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, met Ambassador Cindy McCain, US Permanent Representative to the UN Agencies in Rome.
Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for International Development Affairs, attended a virtual side event organised by the Permanent Mission of the Argentine Republic to the United Nations and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on opportunities and challenges in international development cooperation for middle-income countries. Al Shamsi also attended the meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Contact Group on Muslims in Europe, which was organised by the Permanent Observer Mission of the OIC to the United Nations.
Omar Ghobash, Assistant Minister for Culture and Public Diplomacy, attended the 57th Annual Appeal of Conscience Awards Dinner.
