AL AIN, 7th February, 2023 (WAM) — The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has established effective research collaboration with major research and academic institutions to enhance the university’s reputation and global ranking as part of its international research collaboration strategy.

The University is selecting international partners based on their areas of strength and Indian academic and research institutions are some prominent international partners.

Professor Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research at UAE University, said, “International collaboration is a strategic research priority aimed at improving the efficiency of research productivity and quality in order to achieve the university’s vision to be a research-intensive university with high research standards and significant contributions to science and knowledge. The collaboration with Indian academic institutions will make a qualitative leap in research outcomes through benefiting from the capabilities of Indian universities and research centres.”

Prof. Murad pointed out that faculty members and researchers from UAE University cooperated with researchers from 333 Indian academic and research institutions during the period 2017-2022.

Researchers from the UAE University published 674 research papers, according to Scopus data during that period, with researchers from Indian universities and research centres. About 55 research papers were published jointly with All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in New Delhi, gathering a total of 24,046 citations.

Prof. Murad explained that UAEU researchers published 71 papers with researchers from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, according to Scopus data, during 2017-2022.

About 38 researchers from the UAE University and 92 researchers from the Manipal Academy were involved in these publications. In addition, research cooperation with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) resulted in 43 research papers according to Scopus data during 2017-2022. Around 22 researchers from the UAE University and 31 researchers from the ICMR were involved in these publications.

The Associate Provost for Research added that the areas of cooperation with Indian academic research institutions focus on medicine and health sciences, in addition to materials sciences.

Furthermore, researchers from UAE University and researchers from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay are currently conducting two studies. The first study is on “diabetes”, while the second study is on “evaluation of groundwater recharge from sudden intense rains in dry areas using geographic information systems and remote sensing,” he said.
