SANTIAGO/BUENOS AIRES, 22nd May, 2022 (WAM) — An Emirates News Agency (WAM) delegation, led by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, visited several media establishments in Chile and Argentina to promote cooperation in exchanging news.

The visits are part of WAM’s keenness to create partnerships with media outlets in Latin America and build a wide network of strategic work relations with international media players.

While in Chile, the delegation visited the headquarters of Santiago-based Canal 13, which is the second oldest TV channel in the country.

The delegation was briefed about the work of the channel, which began broadcasting in 1959 and is the only South American television station that is currently an associate member of the European Broadcasting Union.

Moreover, the delegation visited the headquarters of the National Television of Chile (TVN), which began broadcasting in 1969, as well as the headquarters of the newspaper, La Tercera, which was founded in 1950, where the WAM delegation was briefed about the newspaper’s history and explored opportunities for media cooperation.

The delegation also visited the headquarters of the Mega TV network and the headquarters of Chilevision, which was founded in 1959.

During the visit, the WAM delegation signed an agreement with Chilevision to enhance cooperation in the field of news exchange.

The delegation then visited the headquarters of Radio Bio-Bio to discuss opportunities for enhancing their cooperation in joint media work.

During the Argentina tour, the WAM delegation visited the headquarters of both the TVP television network, which began broadcasting in 1951, and Clarin, which was founded in 1945, and is the largest newspaper in Argentina and the world’s second most widespread Spanish-language newspaper.

Furthermore, WAM signed a media cooperation agreement with Redaccion, a leading Spanish-language digital newspaper, during a visit to its headquarters. Two cooperation agreements were also signed with the Argentina-based Latin America News Agency and C5N television channel.

The WAM delegation visited Canal 9 (also known as El Nueve), a television station based in Buenos Aires, where they inked a cooperation agreement.

The Argentina tour also included visits to the headquarters of the Argentine national news agency Télam, which was established in 1945; Telefe, a television station established in 1990, as well as Infobae, the online news portal of the Argentine newspaper, Buenos Aires Económico.

The delegation also visited the headquarters of Artear television company in Buenos Aires, which produces and broadcasts TV programmes across Argentina and its neighboring countries.

Al Rayssi highlighted the importance of the delegation’s visits to several leading media establishments in Chile and Argentina, noting its keenness to strengthen the foundations of their sustainable partnerships.

WAM is focusing on advancing its cooperation and partnerships with international media outlets, he explained, adding that Latin American countries have a range of leading media outlets, and that WAM is keen to exchange expertise with them.

The visit is an ideal opportunity to invite media outlets in Chile and Argentina to attend the Global Media Congress, which the UAE will hold in Abu Dhabi next November, he said in conclusion.
