by Dubaiforum

DP World and the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) have initiated the construction of a new state-of-the-art logistics park at Jeddah Islamic Port with a whopping investment of US0 million. This facility is poised to elevate storage and distribution capabilities, promoting trade not only within Saudi Arabia but also across the wider region.

Spanning an impressive 415,000 square meters, this greenfield facility will house 185,000 square meters of warehousing space and a vast multi-purpose storage yard, making it the largest integrated logistics park in the Kingdom. With over 390,000 pallet positions, customers can expect a seamless movement of goods in and out of Jeddah.

Established in 2022 under a 30-year concession, Jeddah Logistics Park is set to be developed in two phases, with an anticipated opening in Q2 2025. Notably, the facility will boast a rooftop solar plant on the warehouse, producing 20MW of renewable energy, highlighting its commitment to sustainable design.

“This investment is a significant milestone as we commemorate 25 years of operation in Jeddah and reaffirm our dedication to facilitating trade flow,” remarked Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World.

In addition to this project, Mawani and DP World are also collaborating on the management of the South Container Terminal through a separate 30-year concession inked in 2020. The terminal is undergoing a comprehensive modernization project, with completion slated for Q4 2024, increasing its handling capacity to five million TEUs.

Combined, these two projects represent a substantial investment of nearly US billion by DP World.

“This new logistics area will be interconnected with DP World’s South Container Terminal at Jeddah Islamic Port, fostering growth and boosting container handling at the terminal. This initiative aligns with Mawani’s broader strategy to expand logistics centers in Saudi ports, in collaboration with major national and international entities, in line with the goals of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Vision 2030,” added Mawani President, Omar Bin Talal Hariri.

During the groundbreaking event, Mohammad Alshaikh, DP World Country Head for KSA, provided detailed insights about the project to attendees including the UAE Consul General to Jeddah, Nasser Huwaiden Thaiban Ali AlKetbi, as well as senior Saudi government officials and DP World’s leadership team.
