ABU DHABI, 28th March, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution has started taking legal steps to implement the decision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to pardon a number of inmates in the penitentiary and correctional institutions in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in coordination with the relevant authorities. The ADJD aims to expedite the reunion of those benefiting from the pardon with their families on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Ali Mohammed Alblooshi, Attorney General of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, stressed that the decision of His Highness the President to pardon some inmates gives them an opportunity to start a new chapter in their lives. This will help them achieve a decent and stable life, he said, adding that the move is part of a larger vision that serves the interest of all those residing in the UAE, therefore, the country remains an oasis of security and stability with the rule of law and the protection of rights.
Alblooshi stressed that the all inmates in correctional and penal institutions get the opportunity to observe good conduct and benefit from rehabilitation and training programmes, so that they get priority in obtaining the pardon. This is an additional incentive for them to abide by the laws and refrain from violating them in any way, as well as to avoid reoffending and bear the consequences, the official said.
He also praised the attention paid by H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, to the work of the Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi to fulfill its role and assume its responsibilities to ensure the preservation of the rights and freedoms for all members of society, and to accomplish justice.
