SHARJAH, 24th August, 2022 (WAM) — The Arab Union for International Exhibitions and Conferences (AUIEC), which operates under the umbrella of the Council of Arab Economic Unity of the Arab League, has discussed enhancing coordination among exhibition bodies and institutions in the Arab world and ways to increase the industry’s support for the private sector.

During its regular meeting held at the headquarters of Jordan’s Ministry of Investment, the Arab Union also discussed mechanisms for improving the exhibition and conference industry in Arab countries and how to improve its contribution to the national economy.

The meeting was chaired by Saif Mohammad Al Midfa, Chairman of the AUIEC’s Board of Directors, Member of the Sharjah Consultative Council, and CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, and Khairy Amr, Minister of Investment, Jordan, as well as members of the AUIEC Board of Directors.

The meeting reviewed the programme of the AUIEC’s board members visiting the 1st Arab Expo, which is organised today by the AUIEC in Jordan in cooperation with the Jordan International Exhibition Centre.

Al Midfa said that the gathering aligns with the union’s ongoing efforts to promote the exhibition and conference industry in the Arab countries, foresee its future, and develop innovative strategies. He stressed that the union strives to enhance the industry’s competitiveness, improve its performance, and sustainable growth, while also enabling it to play its primary role in fostering economic recovery and reviving the tourism and commerce sectors.

“Through the 1st Arab Expo, the union looks forward to expanding inter-Arab collaboration and laying solid foundations for a robust and sustainable Arab economy with the support of the exhibitions and conferences sector,” Al Midfa said.

Zaher Al Qatarneh, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Investment, has welcomed the AUIEC’s Board of Directors’ meeting in Jordan, saying it has provided a platform to discuss mechanisms for bolstering cooperation among Arab countries to achieve joint Arab economic integration, and support national products locally and abroad.

Mahmoud Youssef Al Jarrah, AUIEC Secretary-General, expressed the hope that the 1st Arab Expo will bring about remarkable outcomes in light of the impressive show by Arab countries and unions representing many economic, commercial, investment and agricultural sectors such as foodstuffs, furniture and furnishings, clothing and fashion, communications and information technology, medical supplies, handicraft products, real estate and housing, tourism and medical tourism.
