Philippine fencer Sam Catantan is gearing up for her final training camp in Venice, Italy, as she prepares for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The rigorous training camp will provide Catantan with the opportunity to face world-class fencers and simulate the challenges she will encounter at the prestigious sporting event.

Excited about the training camp, Catantan expressed her eagerness to gain valuable lessons and experience that will enhance her performance at the Olympics. The 22-year-old athlete from Frisco, Quezon City is the first woman fencer to represent the Philippines at the Olympics, although she faces tough competition from top fencers around the world and understands the challenges of winning a medal.

Having secured her Olympic berth by emerging on top at the Asian Olympic Qualification event in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, Catantan has been preparing both mentally and physically for the Summer Games. Following her qualification victory, she took time off to complete her final exams as a graduating accounting major at Penn State University, enjoyed a vacation with her family, and participated in various events within the Philippine fencing community.

Catantan is grateful for the opportunities to train in Italy and France, acknowledging the positive impact it will have on her confidence and overall preparation for the Olympics. As she heads to Venice for her final training push, she remains focused and determined to give her best performance on the global stage.
