Dubai Municipality has announced the launch of its GIS Center, the official source for the development of digital maps in support of public and private services and activities in the emirate, to implement a project for the development and design of high-resolution digital maps, with the aim of using those in self-driving vehicles, in line with the Dubai Smart Government’s goals and vision to support digital transformation of the public utilities sectors, making Dubai the best city for life in the world and reinforcing the municipality’s vision of being a pioneer in a global city.
The project aims to develop and design maps in accordance with standard standards that are in line with the characteristics of the Emirate of Dubai and the latest international standards for use by companies providing specialized solutions for self-driving vehicles, which are expected to represent a high percentage of traffic in Dubai in the future. The GIS Center in the municipality works continuously to coordinate with partners and stakeholders, with the aim of promoting the principles of integration in the preparation of high-resolution maps, to ensure their optimal implementation, in accordance with specific specifications, standards and requirements, enabling users to to enjoy an ideal experience.
