Dubai’s Museum of the Future is opening to the public on February 22, and tickets are now on sale for the state-of-the-art attraction at Dhs145 ($39) per person.

Tickets went on sale on Sunday (February 13) on the Museum of the Future‘s website. Tickets for children under the age of three are free, as are tickets for people of determination and Emiratis aged 60 and older.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has described the Museum of the Future as “the most beautiful building on earth”.

“When they hear ‘Museum of the Future’, a lot of people envision robots, flying cars and shiny gadgets,” Museum of the Future director Lath Carlson told blooloop.

“But that’s not really what we’re about.”

“Some of those things are fantastic and creative and innovative,” he added. “If they address a big challenge like climate change, we want to show them off.”

The Museum of the Future covers an area of 30,000 square metres and features a stainless steel façade adorned with Arabic calligraphy and quotes from poems written by Sheikh Mohammed.

The museum includes a research centre with labs and classrooms, and areas to showcase new technologies such as virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI).

“Really, though, it is about the storytelling, and how we effectively deploy technology in the service of storytelling. The latest and greatest technology doesn’t last very long,” Carlson said. “However, if you focus on the underlying storytelling, that is timeless.”
