BERLIN, July 7 / WAM / A delegation of 60 members of Special Olympics programs attended the meeting of delegation leaders before the start of the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023, which will host the city of Berlin.
The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Berlin organized the “Sports Diplomacy” event to reaffirm the UAE’s commitment to promoting and integrating people with determination in the field of sport and to highlight the achievements of the Special Olympics World Games hosted by Abu Dhabi. in 2019, in strengthening participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
In his speech to representatives of the participating countries and bodies, Abdullah Ali Al Hamli, Head of Political Affairs at the Embassy in Berlin, praised the joint work between international bodies and bodies to make the holding of the World Games Berlin 2023 a success.
He highlighted the impact of the Special Olympics for the last World Games held by the UAE in 2019, and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Emirati and German side in the field of sports ahead of the UAE’s participation in the Berlin 2023 World Games.
Amr Badawy, Head of the Sports and Training Unit at the UAE Special Olympics, spoke about the key achievements of the Special Olympics for the World Games “Abu Dhabi 2019” and the importance of sports at the national, regional and international levels.
During the event, representatives of the participating international bodies were honored in the presence of Catherine Koenen, Director of the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, as well as representatives of the Sargent Shriver Global Messenger Program and the International Special Olympics Authority.
