Sharjah, 17th August / WAM / Sheikh Saif bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Director of the Prevention and Safety Authority of Sharjah, praised the efforts made by the Sharjah Public Works Department in publishing a Health, Safety and Environment Manual for the management of projects under its monitoring.
Sheikh Saif bin Muhammad Al Qasimi pointed out that the department is a pioneer in providing initiatives that preserve the safety of workers and the manual that was released will avoid many hazards on construction sites, the most important of which is working at height.
He appreciated the integration of roles and efforts between government departments to implement Executive Council Resolution No. 15 of 2021 regarding the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System, which the Prevention and Safety Authority plans to launch at the end of next September during the International Forum of the Government communication.
For her part, Zubaida Abdulaziz, head of the government communications department of the Prevention and Security Authority, pointed out that public authorities have developed safety, health and occupational health and safety systems in accordance with the nature of their activities, which contributes to achieving the highest level of security in the emirate.
She explained that the Prevention and Safety Authority has developed 48 professional and advisory guides to help all public and private agencies comply with Executive Council Resolution No. 15 of 2021 regarding the Sharjah Occupational Safety and Health System, which sets 18 requirements that all employers must comply. with, the most important of which is ensuring the safety of workers, contractors, visitors and those affected by the employer’s activities. Assessment of all expected risks in the workplace in addition to safe use of machinery and equipment, following the necessary procedures when handling, transporting and storing materials, provision of qualified paramedics and first aid equipment, appointment of an occupational health and safety officer and training of employees.
The Danish Agency for Prevention and Safety has launched several information campaigns, the most important of which is the campaign for working at height in the central and eastern regions to inform contractors about the dangers of working at height and the safe use of scaffolding with the participation of municipalities. in the Central and Eastern regions, as well as the Swimming Pool Drowning Safety Campaign, which aims to educate community members about swimming pool safety procedures in collaboration with the Sharjah Sports Council and “Sharjah Children” from the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators.
