HANOI, 02 September 2022 (WAM) — Vietnam says it has made great efforts to implement UNESCO Conventions for Safeguarding the World’s Cultural and Natural Heritage since ratification of the Convention in 1987. , reported by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
The Convention, adopted by the Organization at its 17th session in Paris on 16 November 1972, is the only one that combines the protection of cultural and natural heritage. 194 states are members of the treaty.
Since Vietnam ratified the agreement, the World Heritage List has inscribed eight cultural, natural and mixed heritage sites. In addition, according to UNESCO’s “Memory of the World” program, Vietnam has seven of her documentary heritage sites at the Asia-Pacific and global levels. The country also has her nine biosphere reserves in the world.
The protection and promotion of the site has contributed greatly to the development of Vietnam’s local socio-economy, especially tourism, and contributed to the practical and sustainable benefits of the people.
According to UNESCO’s assessment, Vietnam is an active member of the agreement and is working with UNESCO on a number of projects to help the region protect and promote its diverse and rich cultural practices.
