GEMS World Academy – Dubai (GWA) is opening a new campus for senior students (Grades 9-12) in August 2024. The all-through IB continuum school is expanding with a second site located within minutes of its current campus in Al Barsha.
The second campus – which will open in the building formerly occupied by the Global Indian International School – will be exclusively for senior students in Grades 9-12, with dedicated facilities to support the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme. It includes an IT-enhanced research centre, subject-specific classrooms, a sustainability centre, and an exam hall.
In addition to academic facilities, the senior campus will offer state-of-the-art amenities for sports and the performing arts, including squash courts, a four-court sports hall, a 25m swimming pool, and a fitness studio. Additionally, there will be music practice rooms, a recording studio, an auditorium, art rooms, a theatre with a black box room, as well as a media and green room.
A free shuttle bus service will run between the two campuses, helping to make drop-off and pickup convenient for both parents and students.
The new building will not only benefit GWA Dubai’s Senior students, however. Nursery to Grade 8 will remain at GWA’s current site, allowing these students exclusive use of the entire campus. This will mean fewer students, more space, and enhanced access to facilities.
The school promises to maintain its commitment to a maximum of 25 students per class and offer primary and middle school students greater access to specialist facilities for subjects including food technology, product design, computer science, and science.
Commenting on the expansion, Dr Saima Rana, CEO/Principal of GEMS World Academy – Dubai and GEMS Education’s Chief Education Officer, said:
“Our commitment to providing a world-class education to our students is unwavering. By extending our footprint, we aim to enhance the educational journey for each student, fostering an environment that promotes open-mindedness, principled behaviour, and a commitment to excellence.
“The expansion not only aligns with the IB principles, but also reinforces our dedication to nurturing lifelong learners who are equipped to thrive in an ever-evolving global landscape.”
GEMS World Academy, Dubai is an IB continuum school with a cohort of around 1,800 students from Pre-KG through to Grade 12. It offers all four IB programmes – the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme, which offers a more practically-based course.
