by Dubaiforum

The Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC) management team recently traveled to Basrah for a series of meetings and visits in the region. Led by Christophe Michels (MD), Dr. Ali Jawad (Erbil & Basrah), and Mohand Alkhattab (Baghdad), the team met with Mr. Asaad Al Eidany, the Governor of Basrah, to discuss the region’s economic future and the important role it plays in Iraq’s overall economy.

One of the key highlights of the trip was a visit to the Oil & Gas Expo to connect with the supply network operating in Basrah. As a hub for major oil and gas production facilities, Basra is crucial to Iraq’s future growth, especially with ongoing infrastructure projects like the dry canal project that will enhance connectivity between southern Iraq and the Gulf region.

During their visit, the IBBC team also attended the Iraqi International Oil and Gas Exhibition, where they met with various industry members including TotalEnergies, BGC, KBR, Sardar Group, and Hydro C. The team also hosted a dinner at the Grand Millennium Hotel in Basra, which was attended by IBBC members, friends, and important figures like Deputy Governor of Basra Mr. Zaid Al Emara.

Additionally, the team had meetings with the Basrah Chamber of Commerce and visited the Fertilizer plant of AAA Holding in Khor Al Zubair. They were also invited to BNGL in North Rumaila by Mr. Bashar Khassab of BGC, who showcased the gas capturing site in Basra.

Reflecting on the trip, Mr. Michels emphasized the importance of Basra to Iraq’s future prosperity and praised the ongoing projects and partnerships in the region. He commended the Governor of Basrah for his support of IBBC and its members’ activities, highlighting the positive impact of their collaboration.

Overall, the IBBC team’s visit to Basrah was marked by fruitful discussions, new project prospects, and a reaffirmation of the strong partnership between IBBC and the Governorate of Basrah. The trip underscored the importance of collaboration and support for the region’s development and economic growth.
