‘Iberdrola Sets up Initial Wind Turbine at Baltic Eagle Offshore Wind Farm in Germany’

by Dubaiforum

The Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, a joint venture project between Iberdrola and Masdar, has reached a significant milestone with the successful installation of the first of 50 wind turbines off the coast of Pomerania, Germany. Partnering with Vestas for the remaining installations, the project is on track to be fully operational by the end of 2024.

Once operational, the wind farm will have a capacity of 476 MW, supplying renewable energy to nearly 475,000 households and reducing CO2 emissions by 800,000 tons per year. The 50 Vestas V174 wind turbines, each with an output of 9.525 MW, have been optimized for efficiency and minimal loads, with rotor blades measuring 85 meters in length and a total height of 194 meters.

Felipe Montero, CEO of Iberdrola Deutschland, expressed excitement about the progress of Baltic Eagle, emphasizing its importance in the country’s Energy Transition. Masdar’s Director of Global Offshore Wind, Husain Al Meer, also emphasized the positive impact of the wind farm on reducing carbon emissions and supporting Germany’s renewable energy goals.

Baltic Eagle is part of Iberdrola’s “Baltic Hub,” which includes the Wikinger and Windanker wind farms, with a total capacity of over 1.1 GW by 2026. The project is set to generate an investment of approximately 3.7 billion euros and further solidify Germany’s position as a leader in offshore wind energy production.
