Abu Dhabi Joins Mobile Passport Control Program for U.S.-Bound Travelers

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has expanded its Mobile Passport Control (MPC) program to include Abu Dhabi as the latest Preclearance location. This allows U.S. citizens and select non-U.S. travelers to use the mobile application to streamline the CBP inspection process before boarding U.S.-bound flights.

With the addition of Abu Dhabi, MPC is now available at all 14 Preclearance airport locations managed by CBP’s International Field Office. These locations include Aruba, Bermuda, Dublin and Shannon in Ireland, Nassau in the Bahamas, as well as multiple cities in Canada such as Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg.

CBP’s Executive Director of International Operations and Advisory Directorate, Donald Conroy, emphasized the agency’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience to the United States. He stated that Mobile Passport Control plays a crucial role in expediting travelers’ arrival process and offers additional options for facilitating entry into the U.S.

The MPC mobile app is open to U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, Canadian B1/B2 citizen visitors, and Visa Waiver Program travelers with an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) form. The app enables travelers to input their passport and travel details in advance using their mobile devices, reducing congestion and streamlining processing at designated locations.

To access the MPC app, users can download it for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Travelers can create up to 12 profiles for family members within a single household and submit a single MPC transaction. Upon arrival at participating U.S. or Preclearance locations, travelers can use the app to submit their information to CBP and take a selfie for each member of their group. They can then present their passports or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident cards to the CBP officer for processing in the designated MPC queue.

As travel volumes continue to increase post-pandemic, CBP continues to play a vital role in facilitating trade and travel. The MPC program, launched in August 2014, is now available at 51 locations, including 33 U.S. international airports, 14 Preclearance airport locations, and four seaports of entry. In Fiscal Year 2023, MPC was utilized by over 1.8 million travelers. For more details on MPC, including user eligibility, visit the CBP MPC website.
