Introducing the Latest Shark Plug-in Hybrid Pick-up Truck: Details on Specifications and Range

by Dubaiforum

BYD has officially introduced its long-awaited plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pick-up truck, named the Shark. This new model is set to compete in the mid-size pick-up segment against the popular Toyota Hilux, with a major advantage of its PHEV powertrain.

The Shark is currently available in Mexico in two variants: GL and GS. The pricing for these variants is as follows:
– GL: 899,980 Mexican Pesos (Approx. 196,170 AED)
– GS: 969,800 Mexican Pesos (Approx. 211,388 AED)

The design of the BYD Shark takes inspiration from its namesake, featuring a powerful and sleek appearance. The front of the truck boasts vertically stacked LED headlights, a bold grille with the BYD logo, and a durable skid plate. The overall design exudes a muscular stance with high ground clearance, large wheel arches, and stylish exterior features like dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, and LED lighting.

Inside, the Shark offers a practical and modern cabin layout, designed with soft-touch leatherette and seating for up to 5 passengers. The interior also features numerous storage compartments for added convenience.

The Shark comes equipped with a range of tech features, including a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 12-inch infotainment system, powered and ventilated front seats, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, karaoke function, and more.

Under the hood, the BYD Shark is powered by a 1.5L turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, dual electric motors, and a 29.5kWh battery pack. It also features AWD with a motor on each axle, delivering impressive performance figures like 430hp, 650Nm torque, and a 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds.

Pick-up trucks are popular in the UAE, making the Shark a fitting addition with its powerful PHEV powertrain, off-road capabilities, and eco-friendly design. Anticipated to launch in the UAE later this year, the Shark is expected to start at around AED 200,000, offering a more equipped and efficient option compared to the Toyota Hilux GR variant.
