President of the United Arab Emirates visits Beijing for official trip

by Dubaiforum

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has kicked off a two-day visit to China after being invited by Chinese President Xi Jinping. This visit highlights an important shift in the longstanding relationship between the UAE and China, which has evolved into a strategic partnership covering a wide range of sectors.

The strong bond between the UAE and China is evident through regular high-level meetings, ongoing ministerial engagements, and consistent dialogue. This commitment to enhancing bilateral ties dates back several decades, starting with visits by key figures such as the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and former Chinese President Yang Shangkun in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Recent visits by President Xi Jinping to the UAE in 2018 and Sheikh Mohamed to China in 2019 have further solidified this strategic partnership, ushering in a new chapter of collaboration. Formal diplomatic relations were established in the mid-1980s, with both countries opening embassies in each other’s capitals shortly after.

The UAE has shown its dedication to strengthening ties by setting up consulates in key Chinese cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, while China reciprocated by opening a consulate in Dubai. With over 148 bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding signed across various fields, the UAE-China partnership continues to flourish and grow stronger with each passing year.
