‘Regina Mayor Requests Council Approval for Travel to France’

by Dubaiforum

Regina Mayor Sandra Masters is seeking council approval for a trip to France to participate in the 80th D-Day commemoration from June 3-9, 2024. The estimated cost of the trip, according to city administration, will be around ,000.

Mayor Masters was invited by the French mayors of Tue et Mue and the municipality of Bretteville-Orghe. This trip holds special significance as the Royal Regina Rifles played a vital role in the Normandy landings and the liberation of the city on June 7, 1944. To honor their contribution, an infantryman from the Royal Regina Rifles will embark on a 10-day tour of Europe at the same time.

While the administration is recommending approval for the trip, the final decision rests with the council. They have the option to deny permission for Mayor Masters to leave the country.

In recent times, Mayor Masters has been actively involved in international engagements. She joined the Saskatchewan delegation on a visit to the United Arab Emirates in December 2023, along with numerous participants from across the globe. Additionally, she traveled to Poland in September with John Findura as part of a provincial trade mission, making a stopover in the UK before heading to Warsaw.

The trip to France for the D-Day commemoration is a significant opportunity for Mayor Masters to pay tribute to the brave soldiers who fought for freedom during World War II.
