Sharjah Ruler attends launch of 2nd Sharjah International Summit on Improvement in Education

SHARJAH, 27th February, 2023 (WAM) — H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, today witnessed the opening of the Sharjah International Summit on Improvement in Education (SIEDS), under the theme “Applying innovation, research, and technology to improve education,” at the Sharjah Education Academy headquarters in University City.

This summit is organised by the Sharjah Education Academy, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching (CFAT) with the goal of discussing the latest methods for improving educational systems, as well as the responsibilities of all parties involved in the field using experimental tools to find new information that can improve learning environments and student outcomes.

Dr. Muhaddithah Al Hashemi, President of the Sharjah Education Academy and Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, delivered a speech in which she thanked the Ruler of Sharjah, for attending the Summit’s opening ceremony and for his unwavering commitment to improving education in the Emirate of Sharjah.

In her speech, Dr. Al Hashemi praised Dr. Sheikh Sultan for his efforts in making Sharjah a better place and ensuring the provision of the highest standards of education for its residents.

For her part, Marianne Nissilä, Ambassador of Finland to the UAE, discussed how Finland and the UAE can collaborate to better education in a variety of ways, including collaborative efforts in areas such as teacher training, early childhood education, and educational leadership. She also emphasised the significance of spending in early education to improve student involvement and achievement later in life.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan also witnessed the signing of the agreement establishing the Centre of Excellence for Education Development, which is an applied research centre aimed at studying the best international teaching methods that have achieved excellence in light of the sector’s continuous changes and transforming them into applicable tools and methodologies.

The agreement was reached by the Sharjah Academy for Education, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

The first day of the summit’s activities included a number of sessions, seminars, and talks on a wide range of topics related to improving schools, scientific research, and educational technology (Edtech).

The two-day summit brings together teachers, policymakers, academics, researchers, policymakers, and curriculum developers to discuss the most recent research on the future of education in the Middle East and relevant policies.
