SHARJAH, 14th December, 2022 (2022) — H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated on Wednesday the “Omani Civilisation: Origin & Development” exhibition, organised by the Sharjah Museums Authority in collaboration with National Museum in the Sultanate of Oman at the Sharjah Archeology Museum, from December 14 to June 7.
The exhibition features a collection of artefacts that tell the story of the Omani civilisation from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages until the rise of Islam.
Sharjah Ruler listened to an explanation of the most prominent artefacts in the exhibition, including a tablet with a cuneiform inscription dating back to the period between 2000 – 2100 BC, written on it a list of the basic materials needed to build a fleet of boats that sailed from (Ur), a city in Mesopotamia (Iraq), to Magan (Oman).
Sheikh Sultan also explored a set of ancient daggers made of copper and silver, several statues, pottery, and seals that include a seal with an alphabet-like inscription dating back to about 2200 BC.
The exhibition includes ancient stone and flint tools dating back to 125,000 years, bronze and rare stone artifacts such as short daggers, bronze arrowheads and axes, and a golden necklace dating back to 300 BC and 400 AD.
It holds several events and educational activities targeting children, youth, and adults, introducing them to the ancient period’s most important bronze, copper and iron industries, along with ancient arts.
The exceptional exhibition, the first of its kind in the UAE, sheds light on the historical bonds that unite the two nations.
The Ruler of Sharjah received several books and souvenirs from the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman.
The inauguration was attended by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah; Salem bin Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman; Dr. Ahmed bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the UAE; Khamis bin Salem Al Suwaidi, Advisor at Ruler’s Office; Ali Salem Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah International Airport Authority; Dr. Saeed Musabah Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Sharjah Education Council; Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department; and Manal Ataya, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority.
