MADRID, 2nd March, 2022 (WAM) — Meritxell Batet Lamaña, Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, on Tuesday received Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), during his official visit to Spain.
Al Jarwan discussed with Lamaña opportunities to enhance cooperation between the council, its various entities – the General Assembly and the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace – and the Spanish congress. They also agreed to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides during the coming period.
Al Jarwan also invited Lamaña to request representatives of the Spanish Congress to participate in the ninth session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace and the International Conference on Tolerance, which will be held from 26th – 28th March in the UAE.
He also reviewed the council’s most prominent efforts to support the values and culture of love, peace and tolerance worldwide. Al Jarwan also gave a brief on the most critical initiatives and projects that the council participates in worldwide to promote peaceful coexistence and tolerance.
The GCTP President praised the great role of Spain and its various institutions in supporting efforts to spread the culture of peace, coexistence and tolerance worldwide and its contributions to international initiatives. Spain’s role aims to end conflicts by peaceful means and support development prosperity around the world, especially in Latin America and Africa.
Lamaña, in turn, lauded the council’s efforts in spreading a culture of respect for the other, peace and tolerance among the various peoples of the world over the past years.
She also thanked Al Jarwan for his interest in partnering with the Spanish Congress of Deputies and establishing cooperative ties with various institutions in Spain.
Al Jarwan presented the Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies the shield of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, in appreciation of the role of the Spanish Parliament and its various committees in supporting equality, human dignity, peaceful coexistence and tolerance.
