Sultan bin Ahmed meets SASAST scientific team

SHARJAH, 16th March, 2023 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UOS), met on Thursday morning, a scientific team from the Sharjah Academy for Space and Astronomy Science and Technology, at the academy’s headquarters.

The meeting discussed a number of research topics that are being worked on at the Academy, in addition to developing the facilities and systems of astronomical exhibitions, and discussing the stages of establishing the Wadi Al Helou Observatory affiliated to the Academy.

The President of UoS toured the cubic satellite laboratory, looking at the results of the recent updates of the cubic satellite “SharjahSat 1”, and its condition in terms of temperature and the energy stock, in addition to the signals received from it and the pictures that were taken during the previous period, which allows those in charge to okay the next steps for building the composite satellite.

He also watched the working mechanism of the engineering model of the composite satellite “SharjahSat 1”, which simulates the previously launched composite satellite, as is tested in the laboratory to ensure its effectiveness before the original composite satellite is given orders.

Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed listened to an explanation from the Academy students about the specifications of the composite satellite “SharjahSat 2”, which is being worked on in the Academy’s laboratories, and its working mechanism compared to the composite satellite “SharjahSat 1”, in preparation for its future launch.

The cubic satellite “SharjahSat 1”, launched last January, was manufactured in the cube satellite laboratory at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology, and is equipped with the equipment and facilities necessary to design and operate the satellite such as the high-performance workstation and the programmes required for design, simulation and analysis of the mission is in the space environment, in addition to the clean room and the ground station, which operates at different frequencies.

A number of Emirati engineers and students participated in the project.
