ABU DHABI, 1st July, 2022 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Crown Prince Court and Member of the Executive Council, has inaugurated “Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Otaiba” Street, formerly Delma Street, in recognition of the poet and former Chairman of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Industry and Commerce contributions to Abu Dhabi’s economy and cultural heritage.
The announcement came following the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development; Falah Mohamed Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport; and members of Al Otaiba family among several senior officials.
Saeed bin Ahmed Al Otaiba was born in 1916 in the Al Dhahr neighbourhood in Abu Dhabi. He started his career as a pearl trader, and later traded commodities in several countries.
He served in several government entities after the formation of the UAE. He became the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Industry and Commerce in 1971 and was elected Chairman of the UAE Federation of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Saeed bin Ahmed Al Otaiba is also a prominent figure in colloquial poetry.
