by Dubaiforum

The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 5, is set to celebrate the literary legacy of Naguib Mahfouz. Mahfouz will be recognized as the “focus personality” of this year’s event, with Egypt being honored as the guest of honor.

Daily discussions at the fair will feature authors and cultural personalities delving into Mahfouz’s impactful work, which led him to become the first Arab author to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1988. Attendees can also expect insights into Egypt’s rich literary tradition.

Organized by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the event will also highlight the Books of the World program, focusing on a significant work that promotes understanding between different cultures.

Leading up to the fair is the International Congress of Arabic Publishing and Creative Industries on April 28, featuring panel discussions on current trends in Arabic publishing. The fair will culminate with a full program of sessions and visiting authors, to be announced closer to the date.

Ali bin Tamim, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, emphasized the importance of the fair in enriching the cultural landscape of the Arab world. He praised Egypt for its pioneering contributions in various creative fields, and highlighted Mahfouz’s role in elevating Arab literature on the global stage.
