Wetland International welcomes Wasit Wetland Centre

by Dubaiforum

Sharjah: Wasit Wetland Center has been admitted to membership in Wetland International as part of the ongoing efforts of the Environment and Protected Areas Authority in Sharjah (EPAA) to promote wildlife and sustain biodiversity in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Wetland International is a global network of wetland associations, with 350 members on six continents. Formally acknowledged by a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, it is a vital resource for educational wetland centers and parties that have signed the Ramsar Convention. The creation of communication campaigns, public awareness of community-level training and educational initiatives, knowledge sharing, and the provision of practical conservation tools are all made possible by the Wetlands CEPA.

The official certificate of membership from Wetlands International network was presented to Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, the chairperson of Sharjah’s Environment and Protected Areas Authority, at the occasion. She expressed her happiness with Wasit Wetland Center’s successful participation.

This demonstrates the success of the Sharjah government’s environmental strategy, which places a high priority on the creation of wetlands and natural reserves around the emirate. These locations serve as both major tourism destinations and vital pillars of the emirate’s overarching strategy.

The EPAA is dedicated to giving these reserves and centers’ distinctive and frequently endangered flora, animals, and birds the full attention and care they need to live safe and fulfilling lives.

More than 60 different species of both resident and migratory birds call the center home, offering guests a rare chance to see these birds in the wild. In addition, the center provides a range of educational activities and programs that inform visitors about the value of coastal birds and the dangers they confront.
