SHARJAH, 13th March, 2023 (WAM) — The 51st edition of the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show (WJMES) concluded on Sunday at the Expo Centre Sharjah (ECS) with resounding success.

The event, which was held under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was supported by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and saw many records broken over the course of five days.

The event drew over 500 major gold and jewellery makers and traders from around the world, turning Sharjah into a global meeting place. With over 66,000 visitors, the event experienced a 25 percent increase from the previous edition.

On the final day of the exhibition, the organisers announced the names of six lucky winners who received valuable prizes, including 1 kilogram of gold, rings, and a necklace featuring some of the world’s most luxurious diamonds.

Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI and ECS, said that the Emirate of Sharjah hosted one of the largest events specialising in gold and jewellery in the Middle East and North Africa region over the course of five days. The event saw significant international participation and attracted prominent jewellery makers and traders, highlighting the exhibition’s position as an international platform for participants to access national and regional markets and showcase their latest products.

Al Owais emphasised the event’s record-breaking success, which would not have been possible without the generous patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and his vision that has strengthened the exhibition’s competitiveness over the years, making it a success story that reflects the avant-garde position of Sharjah in the exhibition industry regionally and globally.

Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, expressed his satisfaction with the 51st edition of the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show (WJMES), which has been a key regional and international event for over three decades. The event attracted major gold and jewellery makers from around the world, as well as international and regional companies and brands seeking to expand their businesses in the UAE and the region.

Al-Midfa emphasised that surveys conducted by ECS revealed the remarkable success of the World Jewellery and Middle East Exhibition (WJMES). The results were overwhelmingly positive, indicating that the event facilitated a unique and unparalleled shopping experience for visitors, with state-of-the-art gold and jewelry designs on display all under one roof.

Moreover, the surveys highlighted that exhibitors witnessed an increase in sales, cementing WJMES’s reputation as a key regional and international event that draws the attention of major players in the industry seeking to expand their business in the UAE and the wider region.

The City Story and Emirates Jewellers stands, designated by the SCCI to showcase and support Emirati talents, entrepreneurs of determination, and small to medium enterprises, witnessed a remarkable participation of local designers and craftspeople.

The stands drew in a large number of visitors, eager to see the handcrafted products and paintings inspired by Khorfakkan city’s heritage, as well as various designs of precious stones, natural pearls, jewellery, and gold works engraved in Arabic calligraphy.

Exhibitors heaped praise on the exhibition, lauding it as a vital regional platform for showcasing their latest and most innovative gold and jewellery designs.

They stressed that the event provided a lucrative opportunity to generate substantial profits, while also allowing them to stay up to date on the latest trends in local, regional, and global markets.

Furthermore, they appreciated the opportunity to gain insight into the latest cutting-edge technologies and developments within the industry and to network with key decision-makers, experts, and specialists with the aim of exchanging valuable experiences related to the gold and jewellery sector.
