DEWA’s Research and Development Centre Releases 221 Scientific Papers in Global Forums by 2023

The Research and Development (R&D) Centre of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) made significant strides in 2023 by publishing 73 Scopus-indexed scientific and research papers in various international scientific conferences, peer-reviewed journals, and periodicals. This accomplishment brings the total number of papers released by the center to 221 by the end of last year.

The published papers cover a wide array of topics, including solar energy, water, energy efficiency, smart grid integration, space, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. With a team of highly skilled Emirati professionals, including 29 PhD and master’s degree holders, the Emiratisation rate at the Centre has reached 74 percent, with 40 percent of Emirati female employees holding advanced academic qualifications in scientific and engineering fields.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the MD & CEO of DEWA, reiterated the organization’s commitment to advancing innovative scientific research in alignment with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for a sustainable future. This commitment supports Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. DEWA strives to cultivate an environment that fosters creativity and innovation, facilitating partnerships between the government and academic sectors to position Dubai as a leading hub for clean energy research.

The R&D Centre utilizes cutting-edge technologies and facilities to drive innovation in energy production and operations, addressing challenges in solar and clean energy. Al Tayer commended the diverse team for enhancing the UAE’s competitiveness in scientific research, ultimately contributing to global efforts towards a sustainable economy. He applauded the center’s publications in international forums, showcasing Emirati talents on the global stage and shaping a sustainable future.

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, highlighted the focus areas of DEWA’s R&D Centre, which include the Fourth Industrial Revolution (AI, IoT, Robotics & Drones, 3D Printing & Advanced Materials), Energy System Analyses, and Space. The Centre’s Space-D programme aims to develop niche use cases for grid and water networks to demonstrate promising solutions for future energy and water systems.
