The ceremony took place amid an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for Dubai’s ambitious transportation agenda. Upon arrival at the venue, Sheikh Mohammed was greeted by Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). According to future projections, the volume of passengers utilizing the Dubai Metro is expected to surpass 300 million by the year 2026, subsequently rising to approximately 320 million by 2031. The Dubai Metro has undergone remarkable growth since its inception in 2009, when it commenced operations with just ten stations. It is projected that by 2040, these neighborhoods will be home to approximately one million residents. Al Tayer elaborated on the design and functionality of the Blue Line, explaining that it comprises two primary routes: one stretching from the Al Jaddaf area through pivotal locations such as Dubai Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour, and another connecting through Mirdif and Al Warqa. These routes are designed to support the connectivity requirements of a rapidly evolving urban environment, providing direct access to essential services, educational institutions, and economic hubs, as well as transit to Dubai International Airport in a mere 20 minutes.
The Blue Line aligns with the broader objectives outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which emphasizes sustainable growth and a considerable reduction in road congestion—projected at 20% across areas served by the Blue Line.
