Title: Giti Tire and VW ID.Buzz Set a New Milestone for Electric Vehicles Across 92 Countries
HANNOVER, Germany, September 24, 2026 — In a testament to enduring innovation in electric mobility, Giti Tire has successfully transitioned the electric vehicle (EV) driving experience into uncharted territory. Their state-of-the-art GitiSynergy H2 tires played a pivotal role in helping renowned expedition driver Rainer Zietlow complete a record-breaking journey of 99,800 kilometers across 92 countries. This unprecedented global tour, which spanned 16 months, was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the longest continuous voyage with a battery-powered vehicle.
The monumental expedition, undertaken in collaboration with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWCV), took off from Hannover, Germany, on July 1, 2025. This ambitious initiative was designed not merely to transport the driver through various terrains, but to demonstrate the capabilities and reliability of EV technology under real-world conditions. Over the course of the journey, Zietlow navigated diverse landscapes through Europe, Asia, North America, Australia, Africa, and the Middle East, showcasing the potential of sustainable transportation options.
The choice of the VW ID.Buzz as the vehicle for this journey was symbolic, reflecting the direction of modern automotive engineering toward sustainability and efficiency. The innovative GitiSynergy H2 tires, designed specifically for electric vehicles, were developed to minimize rolling resistance while maximizing safety features, including superior wet and dry braking. This is particularly crucial given the varied climatic conditions faced during the expedition, including severe weather periods, especially in Southeast Asia.
To ensure optimal performance throughout the monumental journey, Giti Tire selected two sets of GitiSynergy H2 tires, changing them midway through the expedition. A meticulous inspection at the conclusion of the journey revealed that more than half of the original tread depth remained, underscoring the durability and long-lasting performance of the tires. They were fitted with specific dimensions—235/60 R18 for the front and 255/55 R18 for the rear—reflecting a tailored approach aligned with Giti’s Original Equipment agreement with VWCV established in September 2023.
At the culmination of this historic venture, held during the IAA Transportation event in Hannover on September 14, 2026, Zietlow was presented with the official Guinness World Records certificate. During a celebratory address, he praised the pivotal role that the GitiSynergy H2 tires played in facilitating a seamless journey. “Having driven almost 100,000 kilometers, I can confidently say that the GitiSynergy H2 tires deliver a premium quality driving experience. With excellent rolling resistance, we achieved around 400 kilometers between charges, even during intense rainfall in Southeast Asia, where we experienced zero aquaplaning,” he remarked.
Chris Bloor, Executive Director at Giti Tire, emphasized the broader significance of this achievement in the EV sector. “Our objective was to showcase our advanced EV tire technology by operating under real-world conditions, affirming our long-term commitment to sustainability, safety, and innovation,” he stated. The successful execution of this journey reflects the company’s dedication to pioneering advancements in tire technology that are crucial as automotive trends shift toward electrification.
Moreover, Giti Tire’s innovative spirit is further exemplified by its record entry when the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme (U9X) achieved an astounding top speed of 496.22 km/h on GitiSport e.GTR2 Pro tires, solidifying its status as the fastest production car on the globe. This achievement not only positions Giti as a frontrunner in tire technology but also amplifies its reputation within the fast-evolving landscape of automotive engineering.
Overall, Giti Tire and VWCV have not merely set a record; they have underscored the immense potential of electric vehicles to transform transport on a global scale. This journey signifies a shift in the automotive narrative, promoting sustainability while highlighting tire technology’s role in shaping the future of electric mobility.
