Improving Access to Dubai Marina through a Dh431m Project – Discussion on Dubai

by Dubaiforum

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai has recently made waves with a groundbreaking announcement aimed at revolutionizing transportation access to Dubai Harbour. This strategic move is part of Dubai’s continuous efforts to establish the area as a premier seafront destination in the region.

With a significant contract valued at Dh431 million, the allocated funds will be utilized to construct a state-of-the-art 1.5km, two-lane bridge capable of accommodating up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. This bridge will serve as a crucial link connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to the vibrant waterfront district, with the primary objective of slashing average travel times from 12 minutes to a mere three minutes for both visitors and residents.

The collaboration between the Roads and Transport Authority and harbour owner, Shamal Holding, underlines Dubai’s strong commitment to enhancing its transportation networks to keep pace with the rapid urban expansion and population growth in the emirate. The bridge project, initially announced in February, marks a significant milestone in enhancing overall connectivity and accessibility in the area.

Beginning from the fifth intersection on Sheikh Zayed Road, near the American University in Dubai, the proposed bridge will stretch all the way to Dubai Harbour Street. It will intersect Al Naseem Street with Al Falak Street and cross over King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street before reaching Dubai Harbour. This direct access point to Dubai Harbour is set to streamline traffic flow and elevate the transportation experience for users.

Mattar Al Tayer, the director general of the RTA, has expressed confidence in the project’s potential to ease movement within Dubai Harbour. He highlighted that the bridge construction will also include surface improvements at four key intersections, further optimizing traffic flow and significantly reducing travel times.

While a specific timeline for the start and completion of the bridge project remains undisclosed by the RTA, Abdulla Binhabtoor, the chief executive at Shamal Holding, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enhancing Dubai Harbour as a dynamic seafront destination. Through investments in community-centric enhancements and infrastructure upgrades, Shamal Holding aims to create a unique living environment that prioritizes the well-being of residents and visitors.

Dubai Harbour is already a bustling hub boasting two cruise terminals covering 120,000 square meters, an expansive marina, residential complexes, and various leisure facilities. Situated between Palm Jumeirah and Bluewaters, the harbour recently hosted the prestigious Dubai International Boat Show in 2022, solidifying its reputation as a top maritime destination.

Additionally, an ambitious 1.5km development project is underway at Dubai Harbour, incorporating a residential complex comprising 24 towers and approximately 7,500 apartments. This expansion is expected to further enhance the area’s appeal as a sought-after residential and leisure destination in Dubai.

In summary, the construction of the new bridge at Dubai Harbour represents a significant investment in enhancing transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the thriving waterfront district. As Dubai continues to grow and evolve, projects like these play a crucial role in enhancing the overall quality of life for both residents and visitors. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative project as it progresses.
