Monitoring of UAE’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Goals by COP28 Presidency Given to IRENA

by Dubaiforum

In a significant move towards achieving key energy goals set at COP28, President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber has appointed the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to launch a special annual report series. This series will focus on monitoring progress and providing recommendations to drive the implementation of the UAE Consensus.

The UAE Consensus, established at COP28, aims to triple renewable power capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030. These targets are crucial in the global efforts to combat climate change and meet the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. The Consensus emphasizes the need to transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems in a just, orderly, and equitable manner, with the ultimate objective of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

This collaboration between COP28 and IRENA underscores the commitment to accelerating the shift towards sustainable and clean energy sources. The annual report series will play a key role in tracking progress towards these ambitious targets and providing guidance on how to effectively achieve them.

By working together, COP28 and IRENA are paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future. Their partnership will not only help in meeting the energy goals set out in the UAE Consensus but also contribute to the global efforts in fighting climate change.
