ABU DHABI, 9th March, 2023 (WAM) — The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) held its 12th meeting, headed by Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President and Chairman of the NHRC. The meeting included Committee members and representatives of UAE entities and addressed preparations to review the fourth national human rights report.
During the meeting, which was held at the Presidential Court, Dr. Gargash was briefed on the report, which was delivered to the Human Rights Council Secretariat in February 2023. He was also briefed on the status of human rights events, activities, and workshops organised by the NHRC.
Dr Gargash stressed that the Committee is an important mechanism for following human rights developments in the country and providing a framework for effective cooperation with regional and international organisations.
In this context, Dr Gargash pointed out the importance of strengthening cooperation with the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights Mechanism.

The NHRC is the liaison between all UAE entities concerned with human rights. It works to develop and supervise the implementation of a comprehensive national plan; formulate policies, programs, and strategies to raise awareness; build capacity in the human rights fields; and enhance cooperation with other countries and regional organizations, bodies, mechanisms and committees of the United Nations working in the human rights field.
