The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has recently unveiled the Falcon 2 11B AI model, developed by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), positioning itself as a formidable player in the global artificial intelligence (AI) sector. According to reports, the Falcon 2 11B AI model boasts enhanced capabilities that rival those of Meta and OpenAI.
Faisal Al Bannai, the secretary general of the Advanced Technology Research Council, praised the Falcon project for its ability to outperform larger competitors while operating with fewer resources. The UAE’s ambitious AI initiatives with Falcon include significant investments and the establishment of AI71, a new company dedicated to commercializing Falcon and accelerating the adoption of AI solutions in various sectors such as healthcare, law, and customer service.
Unlike OpenAI’s previous models, Falcon AI’s latest update offers improved language support and innovative “vision-to-language” capabilities, enabling the seamless conversion of images into text. This feature has applications in fields such as medical diagnostics and educational content analysis.
The development of the Falcon AI system will be overseen by the newly established Falcon Foundation, which is committed to following the open-source principles of the Linux Foundation. This commitment ensures that Falcon AI will remain freely accessible, encouraging collaboration and innovation within the global AI community. This move is anticipated to position the UAE as a key player in the AI sector.
