Oscium Releases MetaGeek App for macOS
Real-time packet analysis for Wi-Fi 7 networks arrives on the Mac
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma: Oscium today announced general availability of MetaGeek App for macOS. The Mac release matches the Windows version feature for feature, including real-time Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) parsing across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands on up to four channels at once when paired with an Oscium Nomad or WLAN Pi Go.
MetaGeek App captures every frame on the air and analyzes it live, including automatic event detection, client following through a roam, channel utilization by device, and saved captures in standard pcap format for sharing and documentation.
Mac users have been able to capture packets natively for years. Analysis was the missing piece. Diagnosing a failed roam meant scrolling through a few hundred thousand frames in a protocol analyzer, usually well after the failure. MetaGeek App interprets the traffic in real time, so an engineer can watch the roam fail while standing in the hallway where it fails. A Wi-Spy Lucid adds Layer 1 spectrum analysis next to the packet view.
“Mac users have been asking for this for years, and lately they stopped asking nicely,” said Rocky Gregory, Chief Product Officer at Oscium. “It took longer than it should have. We refused to ship a reduced edition for Mac, and the full analyzer took time. It does everything the Windows version does, on the laptop most wireless engineers already carry.”
“A lot of our customers have been running the Windows version in a VM, or hauling a second laptop to the site for live analysis,” Bryan Lee, Oscium President added. “They can retire that setup today.”
MetaGeek App for macOS is available now at oscium.com. A free Oscium account opens the first five minutes of any packet capture. Full licenses are $1,500 perpetual or $500 per year and cover both macOS and Windows.
