Tokyo Governor highlights COP28 pivotal role in achieving carbon neutrality

TOKYO, 25th October, 2023 (WAM) — Governor Koike Yuriko of Tokyo said that the Tokyo Metropolitan government is working to promote wider use of renewable energy.

In a video message on the occasion of the UAE’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties (COP28), Yuriko underlined the importance of global responsibility in confronting climate change and the ambitious goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050, highlighting the UAE’s pivotal role in this endeavour.

The Governor also lauded the UAE’s leadership in fighting against climate change, its unwavering commitment to sustainability and its efforts to drive global climate action.

She added, “Under the UAE ‘s strong leadership, I’m certain that this will be very fruitful COP28. There is no time to waste in addressing global environmental issues including the worsening climate crisis.”

The Governor added that in Tokyo, efforts are underway to achieve “Carbon Half by 2030” and realise a zero-emission Tokyo by 2050.

“Together, let’s continue moving forward toward a sustainable and bright future,” she concluded.
