NEW YORK, 10th March, 2023 (WAM) — The United Nations and its specialised agencies continue delivering aid for victims of last month’s Türkiye earthquakes, a UN spokesman said on Thursday.

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said, “The UN and our partners have provided more than 42,000 tents and hundreds of thousands of blankets, bedsheets and mattresses.”

More than 900,000 people have received food assistance, and the World Food Programme (WFP) has supplied more than 5.7 million food packages and hot meals, he added.

Haq stated, “The World Health Organisation (WHO) has provided health care to nearly 24,000 people. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reached 319,000 people, including more than 183,000 children, with hygiene kits and non-food items, winter clothes and heaters, among other critical supplies.”
