Arada Awards AED2.18 Billion Contract to UNEC for Construction of Madar Mall at Aljada
In a notable advancement for Sharjah’s retail and entertainment landscape, Arada has officially granted a contract worth AED2.18 billion to United Engineering Construction Company (UNEC) for the development of Madar Mall. This significant initiative falls within Aljada, a large-scale mixed-use megaproject that aims to redefine urban living in the emirate.
Designed by the internationally renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, Madar Mall is positioned to become an iconic centerpiece in Aljada’s family entertainment district. Spanning a vast 3.9 million square feet of built-up area, the mall will provide an impressive 1.1 million square feet of gross leasable space distributed across three levels. Its anticipated completion date is set for December 2028, marking a highly anticipated milestone for both Arada and the city of Sharjah.
Madar Mall is more than just a shopping venue; it is envisaged as a comprehensive family entertainment destination. The mall will feature over 400 retail shops alongside 80 diverse dining options, catering to a wide array of consumer preferences. Beyond shopping and dining, visitors will encounter numerous attractions, including an 11-screen cinema, an ice rink, and a flagship fitness centre. The development will also incorporate a public square embellished with signature dancing fountains, as well as a central observation tower capped with a restaurant that promises scenic views and a unique dining experience.
Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, the Group CEO of Arada, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the project, highlighting its potential to transform the regional landscape. “Madar Mall is a transformational new destination for Sharjah and the wider UAE. With its exceptional design, attractions, and family experience, this project will set a new benchmark for integrated leisure and lifestyle. It is not only a place to shop and dine but also a hub for culture, recreation, and social connection. This is the largest single contract we have ever awarded, and we are pleased to partner with UNEC to bring this vision to life,” he stated.
This ambitious development aims to draw up to 20 million visitors annually, thereby bolstering Aljada’s status as the UAE’s fastest-growing mixed-use community. The broader Aljada project is already home to around 20,000 residents and plans to expand to accommodate over 25,000 residential units alongside retail, hospitality, educational, sports, and commercial facilities.
Eng. Abdulhalim Muwahid, Chairman of UNEC, echoed the sentiment of excitement and responsibility associated with this monumental project. He remarked, “We are proud to have been chosen to deliver such a landmark project in partnership with Arada. Madar Mall is set to redefine the shopping and leisure landscape in the UAE, and we look forward to ensuring it becomes a world-class destination.”
Furthermore, the strategic location of Aljada plays a pivotal role in enhancing its accessibility and attractiveness. With direct connectivity to key thoroughfares such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Dhaid Road, and Sharjah International Airport, as well as the forthcoming Etihad Rail station, Aljada is not only reshaping Sharjah’s urban environment but also establishing itself as a crucial hub for economic and social activities in the region.
The construction of Madar Mall signifies a broader trend in the UAE towards creating multi-dimensional communities that cater to various lifestyle needs, from living quarters to leisure and retail spaces. The initiative reflects a commitment to improving the overall quality of life for residents and visitors alike, illustrating the UAE’s ambition to continually evolve as a hub for tourism, commerce, and culture.
As more details emerge regarding the project, stakeholders anticipate that Madar Mall will invigorate Sharjah’s economy and solidify its reputation as a destination for quality shopping and entertainment within the region.
